Who is the Course for?
This professional development short course is aimed at newly appointed housing officers and advisors in housing who wish to enhance and update their existing knowledge. It is also ideal for those who either wish to work in the housing sector or those who may want to transfer to other areas of housing (such as from homelessness to housing management).
Course Aim
This short course gives a thorough grounding in housing law and local policy so that participants will have the confidence and knowledge to better undertake their present duties or to apply for a post. This is a very practical course which concentrates upon the skills needed and helps to develop participants ability, by the use of case studies, to find solutions to real life housing difficulties.
Course Outcomes
By the end of this short course participants will:

Course Structure
- Homelessness (Housing Act Part VII as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002)
- Tenancies (assured, secure and licences)
- Housing management (allocations, good practice, dealing with rent arrears)
- Possession proceedings (serving notice, type of notice served, outcomes)
- Disrepair (definition, legal remedies)
- Anti-social behaviour (definition, mediation, legal remedies).
Additional Information
The course will take place at the Regent Street Campus of the University of Westminster, 309 Regent Street, London W1U 2UW, which is 2 minute walk from Oxford Circus Underground Station.
Cost
The cost of the course is £350, which includes all course materials, refreshments and lunch. All participants will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.
